.ROAD REPORTS: .From Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service at 16.00 Thursday "Firefighters have worked hard over the last 24 hours supported by United Utilities, Peak District National Park rangers, Derby Mountain Rescue Team, local farmers & gamekeepers to tackle the fire near Errwood Reservoir & the fire area is now surrounded."
UPDATE later Thursday morning ; "Firefighters returned to the scene of a moorland fire near Errwood Reservoir in the Goyt Valley shortly be 07:00 hours this morning.
Crews from Buxton, Glossop, Crich on-call and wholetime crews from Matlock, as well as four crews from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service are currently in attendance assisted by two Argocats and the Command Support Unit.
Support is also being provided by United Utilities, Derby Mountain Rescue Team and Peak District National Park rangers.  Firefighters are using beaters, water backpacks and fogging units, to tackle the fire.
The Cat and Fiddle A54 is currently open however the road known locally as the unnamed Derbyshire Bridge, between the Cat and Fiddle to Errwood Reservoir, is closed.         Local residents are reminded to keep all windows and doors closed.                   UPDATE Thursday morning - the fire is less widespread but still burning - mainly centred on the hills behind and to the north east of the Peak View tea rooms near the Cat & Fiddle pub - when Derbyyshire Fire give an update I will share it .....................LATEST UPDATE:  Update from Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service Update 21.45hrs 30.4.25  Firefighters will shortly be withdrawing from the scene of a moorland fire near Errwood Reservoir due to failing light.
One crew will remain overnight. Reinspection is scheduled for 06.00 hours tomorrow.
The Goyt Valley Appreciated Society said tonight "Word from the fire site is that we are looking at days before the fire gets completely under control. Unfortunately it’s looking like major damage to the curlew population and obviously other moorland birds/species. - Devastating news !"
UPDATE - the fire area is still active late evening but over a smaller area - fire crews say that there is still a danger it might spread to nearby woodland - certainly the smoke plume is much small when viewed from Buxton! Through the evening a helicopter has been on site dropping a large water bag into Errwood Reservoir and then dropping it on the fire - it is also being used to create wet fire breaks.    Fire crews are fighting a Large Moorland Fire to the west of Errwood Reservoir in the Goyt Valley - this has meant that there is so much smoke blowing across roads, some have now been closed in the area.  10 fire engines from Derbyshire and Cheshire are in attendance supported by a water carrier, an Argocat and a Unimog.   Attending crews are from Buxton, Glossop, Whaley Bridge, Crich, Matlock, Staveley, Ashbourne, Hathersage, Chapel-en-le-Frith, and Cheshire's Congleton station.       The area of the A537 and A54 junction has now been closed because of smoke in the area!      Please avoid the Goyt Valley - and the area near the Cat & Fiddle Pub is an assembly area for emergency vehicles so take care there if you are using the Cat & Fiddle Road A537.  I am told that the fire has spread to near the A54 Congleton Road so if using that, look out!
Peak District Moorland Group said tonight  "The area is under a United Utilities management regime and has had extensive fire interventions over the last 20 years.
"With multiple nests of all ground nesting birds being burnt out and the fire heading towards commercial forestry, it’s the worst this area has seen since the 2018 fires when 40 hectares burnt on Ravenslow, one of the most prized blanket bog areas in this location. "Emergency services have asked onlookers to stay away."

..

As you can see the A53 Leek Road is to close from 19.00 in the evening to 06.00 next morning on Tuesday 29th April to Thursday 1st May for roadworks - in the area around the Holmfield turning and Burbage heights - Thank you Badger Nadgers for the info and photo.  ......
